Yahweh's Philadelphia Truth Congregation, Inc.
Before I start, This ministry (quasi) could be called Hooters Ministries because of their background. I am appalled at the information I have on these people. They also could be called The No Name Ministry (again quasi) because their web site has no apparent names, only webmaster. Their article's (one of which I will critique here) also has no names attached as to writer's ID. Perhaps the Phantom Ministry would apply! Am I being smart? Perhaps!
One organization whose writer(s) hide behind the alias "Webmaster",
claiming to have Yahweh's Truth, sets forth an "impressive" article on
men and beards in the Bible. At first glimpse you might think the author was
well-read and had done a good job of research. But, as a famous professor would
say - take a little closer look at the fish.
The author begins with the premise that he is going to show what the Bible has to say about men, True Worship and beards. He starts with a word study on a particular passage about "marring" the "corners" of the beard found in Leviticus 19:27. It is important to remember, when one begins a study such as this; it must be without an agenda such as wanting to have a shaved face or cut beard or uncut beard. A true exegetical study will draw out what the writer is trying to convey rather than proof text an existing belief. The author of this article makes the beginners error in failing to do a thorough research of the word or words in question and then applies this shallow work to the commentaries of our time. (Better to stick with the Bible and good research materials) Allow me to explain.
The Hebrew word translated in most Bibles for "corner" is what was cited in this misleading article. The word in question is #6285 in the Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance, the word "pe'ah (pay-aw') "Feminine of H6311; properly mouth in a figurative sense, that is, direction, region, extremity:—corner, end, quarter, side." The writer(s) then states we must ask what the term "corner" means, focusing on not the definitions given but only one of the ways it is translated. Sadly, he quotes the Strong’s Concordance entry and then later contradicts the definitions by stating that throughout the scriptures the Hebrew word "pe'ah" refers only to a specific region; and not the whole and that there are literally dozens of passages in the Bible that through usage corroborate this word means only "edge" or "corner". A good Bible student will quickly disprove this by reading the Strong’s Concordance definitions and by finding such passages as Neh. 9:22 "Moreover thou gavest them kingdoms and nations, and didst divide them into corners (#6285): so they possessed the land..." KJV. Israel did not dwell in just the corners or edges of the land but throughout the area of Canaan. Notice that in the NIV it translates the word pe'ah as "remote frontiers". In the Sacred Scriptures Bethel edition it translates the word as "portions" as well as the American Standard Version. Other passages include Ex 26.18, Num 34:3, and Ezek 41.12. These are not the only examples that can be quoted but it does illustrate that by not applying critical Bible study methods, it is easy to make the mistakes this organization’s writer (s) has made.
So we can see that this supposed scholar(s) of "Yahweh’s Truth" is putting forth false teaching (doctrine) such as that the word pe'ah can only mean "edge" or "corner" justifying his (their) proof texting of the scriptures, to allow the "chopping off" of his own beard, or those who would follow this "blind guide". There are more passages that also support using "region" or "portion" as well as "extremity" rather than just "corner" or "edge". The question he should have been asking was not "where or what is the corner" but what does the writer mean by "mouth in a figurative sense, direction, region, or extremity". We must not forget that this word pe'ah has its root in the Hebrew word #6311 - po- Probably from a primitive inseparable particle (the second form; of demonstrative force) and H1931; this place (French, icil), that is, here or hence:-here, hither, the one (other, this, that) side.(Strong’s) He (they) focused on only one of the ways it was translated rather than looking at the definitions given by the concordance.
Let us read then the Lev 19:27 using the definitions rather than a single translation example. “Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners (region, extremity, or portion, this side or that) of thy beard.” KJV. Although it is true historically, the followers of Isaac Luria have placed the beard in the position of an idol, this does not impugn idolatry or sin to the true worshipper who seeks to please his Heavenly father by faithfully obeying the command given in Lev 19:27 in refusing to cut or trim his beard. This would be the same as comparing a police officer rushing to an accident scene or chasing a criminal on the same plane as that of a common speeder on the highway.
Besides the failure to properly translate the word pe'ah, he compounds his error by doing the same contradiction of the Strong’s Concordance with the word for "mar" (#7843 in Strong’s) in Lev 19:27. He focuses only on defining "complete destruction" and supports this by using only scriptures that use this limited definition as well as commentaries rather than using all the scriptures and the context to choose the proper definition for what the writer is trying to suggest. This is noticed with the first use of the word in Gen 6:11 where it is translated “corrupt” not “complete destruction”. In verse 13 of this same chapter it is translated “destroy” and yet Noah and his family continued after the flood. Also check Ex 8:24 and remember that Egypt was not completely destroyed by flies as well as Ex 32:7 where Israel “corrupted” themselves by replacing Yahweh with a molten calf. Although the framework of the exodus and true worship was still there, a change of who brought them out of Egypt was made. Look closely at the definitions given in the Strong’s - #7843 Shachath, shaw-khath'; a prim. root; to decay, i.e. (caus.) ruin (lit. or fig.):--batter, cast off, corrupt (-er, thing), destroy (-er, -unction), lose, mar, perish, spill, spoiler, X utterly, waste (-r). Yes there are times it must be translated destroy or destruction but we cannot put words in the mouth of the writers. (Deut 4:2) If you mar something it is not completely destroyed but blemished. It is the same with the beard. To mar it you do not have to completely destroy it but cause it to become decayed or corrupted.
If we properly read the text in question with the definitions given, we can see that it is indeed a sin for one to destroy, corrupt, cause to decay, ruin the region, extremity, or portion, this side or that, end, side, direction of your beard. One can begin to see why the writer(s) of this organization would hide behind the signature of "webmaster".
This organization (if you want to call it that!) has posted two letters filled with venom and hatred in their article section. Now! Did Yahshua tell us to preach evil for teachings? I read thse letters and believe me they contain nothing but evil! Beware!
Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for edifying as the need may be, that it may give grace to them that hear. And grieve not the Holy Spirit of Yahweh, in whom you were sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and railing, be put away from you, with all malice: and be kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, even as Yahweh also in Messiah forgave you. Ephesians 4:29-32
Therefore Doc judges these people to be in serious false doctrine and you should be aware of this organization!
Judging by Urim and Thummim this group fails the test!
THE BLACK STONE!
And this is the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; Elah hath numbered your kingdom, and finished it. TEKEL; You art weighed in the balances, and are found wanting. Daniel 5:25-27
